Google has announced a significant update to its AI Mode in Search, introducing a new way to explore visually and shop conversationally. The update aims to make it easier for users to find what they're looking for, even when they can't quite put it into words.
AI Mode now allows users to ask questions conversationally and receive a range of visual results. Users can then refine their search in a natural way, such as asking for more options with specific characteristics. The multimodal experience also supports starting searches by uploading an image or taking a photo.
For shopping, users can describe what they're looking for as if talking to a friend, eliminating the need to sort through numerous filters. AI Mode will intelligently provide relevant shoppable options based on the user's description.
Key features of the update include:
* Visual search and exploration.
* Conversational refinement of search queries.
* AI-powered shopping without filters.
* Access to the Shopping Graph, featuring over 50 billion product listings.
This enhanced visual search experience is powered by Google's visual understanding technology, combined with Gemini 2.5's multimodal and language capabilities. The new "visual search fan-out" technique allows AI Mode to perform a more comprehensive analysis of images, recognizing subtle details and understanding the full visual context.
The update is currently rolling out in English in the U.S.
