For years, many chief information officers (CIOs) approached VMware-to-cloud migrations cautiously, daunted by the manual effort of mapping dependencies and rewriting legacy applications. However, recent VMware licensing changes are creating uncertainty around the platform's future, pushing organizations to reconsider their strategies.
Cloud-native innovation is rapidly accelerating. The CNCF's 2024 Annual Survey reveals that 89% of organizations have adopted at least some cloud-native techniques, with a significant jump in companies reporting nearly all development and deployment as cloud-native (20% to 24% from 2023 to 2024). IDC reports that cloud providers have become key strategic partners for generative AI initiatives.
These changes occur amidst rising pressure to innovate faster and more cost-effectively in an AI-driven landscape. Enterprises face compute demands that are difficult and costly to maintain solely on-premises, further incentivizing the shift to cloud-based solutions.
