A new Xbox study, 'The Culture of Play Report,' reveals that gaming provides meaning, connection, and self-expression often lacking in other forms of entertainment. Partnering with Edelman Data & Intelligence, Xbox surveyed 1,500 adult video game players in the U.S. to understand how they view their time spent gaming.
The study highlights several key findings:
Meaningful Play: 68% of players find gaming more emotionally fulfilling than other hobbies. Three in four feel they're doing something meaningful when gaming.
Lasting Connection: Six in ten players have made lifelong friends through gaming, and over half report their gaming communities supported them during challenging times.
Personal Expression: Games enable players to decide who they are and how they play, which gamers find valuable.
Xbox is exploring new AI tools, such as Gaming Copilot, to simplify game discovery and personalize the gaming experience, enhancing player agency.
As Xbox approaches its 25th anniversary, it aims to highlight player stories and connections, recognizing the cultural impact of gaming.
