Mechanize, a San Francisco start-up, is creating A.I. tools with the goal of automating white-collar jobs. The company aims to automate jobs “as fast as possible.”

Years ago, tech executives would say that A.I. would augment workers and free them from drudgery. These statements reflected the limitations of the technology at the time.

Now, A.I. systems are capable of writing software, producing research reports, and solving math and science problems. Newer A.I. “agents” can perform long sequences of tasks and check their own work. Some experts believe that an increase in unemployment for college graduates suggests that companies are using A.I. to replace entry-level workers.

Mechanize's Goal

At a San Francisco event, Mechanize, stated its goal of automating all jobs. Tamay Besiroglu, one of Mechanize’s founders, said that they want to fully automate the economy and do so quickly.
