A recent study published in Frontiers in Psychiatry has shed light on the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in assessing academic exam anxiety, perceived stress, and achievement motivation among college students. The research, conducted by a team from Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, utilized AI to analyze students’ psychological states, providing insights into how these factors interact before and after exams.

This system was used in conjunction with SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) to analyze data from an online questionnaire completed by college students. The questionnaire assessed academic anxiety, perceived stress, and achievement motivation before and after exams.
The findings revealed a significant interaction between perceived stress and achievement motivation prior to exams. Specifically, achievement motivation acted as a moderator, reducing the impact of perceived stress on academic anxiety during the pre-exam period. However, this effect was not observed after exams, suggesting that motivation’s role in managing stress is most critical during the anticipatory phase.
Comparing the results from SPSS and FLS, the study demonstrated that AI could efficiently evaluate students’ academic exam anxiety. The AI system provided a nuanced understanding of how psychological factors influence academic performance, highlighting its potential as a tool for educational interventions.
