NVIDIA's Vision for AI Infrastructure in Europe
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently shared the company's ambitious plans for advancing AI infrastructure at Viva Technology (VivaTech) in Paris. Speaking at the event, Huang emphasized NVIDIA's significant investments in Europe, positioning the region as a key player in the global AI landscape. His remarks highlighted the rapid evolution of AI technologies and the critical role of infrastructure in driving innovation.
Huang outlined three pillars of AI development: perceptual AI, which interprets sensory data; generative AI, which creates new content; and agentive AI, which powers robotics and automation. He described how data centers are evolving into "AI factories," with NVIDIA's Blackwell GPU microarchitecture playing a pivotal role in processing complex AI tasks. GPUs, he noted, are essential for modern AI systems, enabling the efficient processing of large datasets and complex algorithms.
Europe's AI Transformation
A central theme of Huang's presentation was Europe's shift from being primarily a consumer of AI technologies to a producer. NVIDIA is actively partnering with European companies like Orange and Telefónica to build AI infrastructure across the continent. Huang stated that Europe is increasingly recognizing the strategic importance of AI infrastructure in driving economic growth and technological independence.
The AI computing capacity in Europe is expected to grow tenfold over the next two years, fueled by NVIDIA's collaboration with Mistral AI to develop a generative AI cloud. This initiative aims to provide European businesses and researchers with access to cutting-edge AI tools, fostering innovation and competitiveness on a global scale.
Industrial AI Cloud
Huang also addressed the challenges of AI specialization, noting that large language models require careful optimization and management. To meet these demands, NVIDIA announced plans to launch the first Industrial AI Cloud in Europe. This cloud will enable virtual development and testing of factories and robotic systems before physical implementation, significantly reducing costs and accelerating deployment.
The Industrial AI Cloud is designed to support industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and logistics, where AI can drive operational efficiencies and innovation. By providing a scalable and secure platform, NVIDIA aims to empower European businesses to leverage AI for competitive advantage.
USP and FAPESP at VivaTech
The University of São Paulo (USP) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) showcased their latest innovations at VivaTech, focusing on areas such as agriculture, climate, and health technologies. Professors from USP presented their research and participated in discussions on the future of AI in these sectors. The event highlighted key themes for VivaTech 2025, including AI in robotics, creative industries, and AI for well-being, such as drug development.
French President Emmanuel Macron attended VivaTech, underscoring the event's significance in shaping the future of technology. The conference featured speakers from leading tech companies like Meta and Alibaba, as well as the introduction of the "Top 100 Rising European Startups." This list recognized promising companies with European headquarters, showcasing their innovation, revenue growth, and potential for future success.
FAPESP's participation in VivaTech was part of the broader FAPESP Week France program, which aims to foster international collaboration and innovation in AI and related technologies.
