At I/O 2025, a major update was shared regarding work on Android XR, a new platform for headsets and glasses. A demo of how Android XR glasses operate was also presented.
Gemini and Android XR
Paired with Gemini, these glasses can see and hear what you do. This allows them to understand your context, remember what's important, and provide information when needed. The glasses have a camera and microphones, enabling Gemini to perceive the world through sight and sound. Speakers allow you to listen to the AI, play music, or handle calls. An optional in-lens display shows helpful information privately.
Functionality and Availability
The glasses also connect to your phone, giving you access to your apps hands-free. Feedback is being gathered on the prototype with trusted testers. You can sign up for a newsletter for updates on when the device will be available and to watch the I/O demo.
