Georgia Senate Committee to Examine AI Impact on Children

ATLANTA (October 2, 2025)—The Senate Impact of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence on Children and Platform Privacy Protection Study Committee will convene its third session on Wednesday, October 8, led by Sens. Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) and Shawn Still (R–Johns Creek). The meeting will primarily address possible dangers related to artificial intelligence and AI-powered chatbots.

Established via Senate Resolution 431, this bipartisan body is tasked with assessing the effects of online platforms, including social media, gaming, and AI, on children. At the conclusion of its meetings, the study committee intends to put forward suggestions for action at the state level.

Collaborative Approach

The study committee intends to work alongside parents, experts, state agency representatives, and private groups to find ways of improving and reinforcing online safeguards, with the goal of ensuring that children have a secure online experience.

Previous Sessions

The committee's initial two sessions centered on the addictive and potentially harmful nature of online platforms for young individuals. They also looked at particular state-level regulations that might lead to heightened online safety. The upcoming session is set to more closely analyze the possible risks connected to the use of AI chatbots on online platforms frequented by minors.
