Georgia Senate Committee to Examine AI Impact on Children

ATLANTA (October 2, 2025)—The Georgia Senate Impact of Social Media and Artificial Intelligence on Children and Platform Privacy Protection Study Committee will convene its third session on Wednesday, October 8. Led by Sens. Sally Harrell (D–Atlanta) and Shawn Still (R–Johns Creek), the meeting will focus on the potential dangers of artificial intelligence and AI-powered chatbots to children.

The committee, established through Senate Resolution 431, is a bipartisan effort aimed at evaluating the effects of online platforms, including social media, gaming, and AI, on children. After concluding its meetings, the committee plans to propose state-level recommendations to address these issues.

Collaborative Approach

The committee will work with parents, experts, state agencies, and private organizations to identify ways to improve online safeguards. The goal is to ensure children have a secure online experience, free from the risks posed by AI and other digital technologies.

Previous Sessions

In the first two sessions, the committee examined the addictive nature of online platforms and their potential harm to young individuals. They also explored state-level regulations that could enhance online safety. The upcoming session will delve deeper into the risks associated with AI chatbots on platforms used by minors.
