Google I/O Highlights
Google's annual I/O event included the rollout of AI Mode in the U.S., letting users interact with Google through conversation. Gemini Live was released for free on iOS and Android, allowing users to grant Gemini access to their camera and screen on an iPhone. The video generation tool, Veo 3, was introduced, improving voice synchronization with moving images. Imagen 4 was also unveiled, enhancing image generation on Gemini. Google upgraded its models, showcasing Gemini 2.5, and introduced Google AI Ultra for $250 a month.
Android Headsets and Glasses
The new Google operating system for Android headsets and glasses was highlighted at Google I/O 2025, using Google Gemini to recommend restaurants and provide directions. It can also perform live translation and use Google Maps' immersive view. Samsung, Warby Parker, Xreal, Kering Eyewear and Gentle Monster are working on AR and AI glasses.
Computex 2025
Computex 2025 in Taiwan showcased new computing gadgets. Huawei presented a foldable laptop, MSI made official a Nintendo Switch 2 rival, and Intel introduced new Battlemage GPUs.
Apple WWDC 2025
Apple sent out invites for the opening keynote of WWDC2025, scheduled for June 9, 2025. The event will reveal the next generation of platforms, including iOS 19, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, tvOS, and visionOS for the Apple Vision Pro. There are questions about how Apple will address Apple Intelligence, as AI-infused Siri upgrades were pushed back.
Whoop 5.0
The latest Whoop fitness tracker, Whoop 5.0, has automatic workout tracking that surpasses the Oura Ring 4. It offers granular detail of health and fitness stats with ECG and blood pressure functionality.
Fujifilm X Half
Fujifilm unveiled the X half, a retro compact camera with twin vertical LCD displays and a film camera shooting mode. It features a vertical 1-inch sensor, JPEG-only photos, and HD video.
Dyson PencilVac
Dyson has unveiled the Dyson PencilVac, a streamlined vacuum cleaner with a 1.5-inch wide handle and four fluffy cone-shaped rollers for the floorhead. It is due to launch in Australia later this summer, but not until 2026 in the US and UK.
