Google's AndroidXR
Google I/O revealed expansions to its Gemini AI. The AndroidXR initiative is working with XR leaders to create mixed and augmented reality devices with AI. Shahram Izadi, head of Google’s AndroidXR development team, said they are building Android XR because there isn't a one-size-fits-all XR solution. He mentioned headsets for movies and games, and lightweight glasses for information on the go. The Android XR team is working with Samsung and Qualcomm on Gemini AI uses for XR devices, including the Moohan headset. Izadi said the Samsung Moohan headset may be available around the time Meta Connect begins.
Meta and Ray-Ban
Meta is partnering with Ray-Ban for AR wearables for consumers. Sales are strong in the EU. Titan Eye+ is expanding the distribution of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses in India. N S Raghavan, the CEO of the Eyecare Division at Titan Company, said that this launch enhances their smart eyewear portfolio.
Microsoft's Digital Twin Builder
Microsoft Build announced the Digital Twin Builder in Microsoft Fabric, available in preview mode. It allows users to create digital representations of real-world environments with 3D models. The solution has a no-code/low-code interface. Features include integrations with map data, access to assets, and a user-friendly design. It also offers AI integration, analytics, and AI-powered automation. Microsoft said that the Digital Twin Builder simplifies digitizing work assets.
Aardman and Peel X
UK animation company Aardman is working with Peel X to showcase characters as AR attractions. Laura Thompson, Digital Producer at Peel X, said that working with Aardman is a joy because their storytelling brings playfulness and imagination. Peel X is helping bring Aardman’s ideas to life through augmented reality.
