Meta's XR Focuses on Social Experiences
Meta is generating interest in social media-based spatial computing experiences just before Apple’s WWDC event. Meta's Reality Labs XR division is collaborating with Instagram to test 3D photos on Quest users’ feeds, aiming to improve user connectivity on Quest devices.
Meta Quest v77 Update
The spatial photo update is designed to further leverage Horizon OS. It is part of the Meta Quest version77 update, which uses AI view synthesis algorithms to convert 2D photos into 3D for Quest users.
Additional Features
Version 77 also includes Navigator, a dashboard for navigating XR applications and managing devices. Other updates feature a Horizon for PC application, spatial audio, Bluetooth LE audio, text-to-speech, and new Meta AI options.
WWDC and Vision Pro
Apple will host its Worldwide Developers Conference from June 9 to 13, showcasing innovations, including the Vision Pro. Earlier this year, NVIDIA featured the Vision Pro at CES, suggesting enterprise-focused advancements at WWDC 2025.
The event will be available to view online via the Apple Developer app, website, and YouTube channel. The live stream includes the keynote address and the Platform’s State of the Union on June 9, with in-person consultations and group labs also available that day.
Apple’s spatial computing vision is a central theme at WWDC, with sessions diving into visionOS group labs. Anticipation is building, even though official announcements are pending.
