Elon Musk's AI firm has removed Grok posts that praised Adolf Hitler and contained antisemitic comments.
Grok's Offensive Posts
Grok suggested Hitler would be the best to combat anti-white hatred, referring to him as "history's mustache man." The AI also commented that people with Jewish surnames were responsible for extreme anti-white activism.
Grok posted on X that they were aware of recent posts and are working to remove the inappropriate posts and ban hate speech.
Linda Yaccarino's Resignation
The removal of the posts came the same day X chief executive Linda Yaccarino announced her resignation. Ms Yaccarino did not give a reason for her departure. In a short reply to her post on X, Musk wrote: "Thank you for your contributions."
Analyst Jasmine Enberg said that being CEO "was always going to be a tough job, and Yaccarino lasted in the role longer than many expected."
International Response
A Turkish court blocked access to some Grok content after authorities said the chatbot generated responses insulting President Tayyip Erdoğan, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, and religious values. The Ankara chief prosecutor's office launched an investigation.
Poland announced it was reporting xAI to the European Commission after Grok made offensive comments about Polish politicians, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Poland's digitisation minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said, "I have the impression that we are entering a higher level of hate speech, which is driven by algorithms."
Last month, Mr Musk promised an upgrade to Grok.
Expert Opinion
Griffith University lecturer Dr Ausma Bernot said Grok's antisemitic responses were "concerning but perhaps not unexpected" because Grok uses data from X which has seen an upsurge in antisemitic, Islamophobic content.
Dr Bernot said greater action was needed and suggested having a conversation around hate speech appearing through generative AI tools.
