Netflix Seeks AI Product Manager

Netflix is seeking a generative AI product manager to become part of its Productivity Assistant team. This fully remote position offers a competitive salary ranging from $240,000 to $700,000 per year.

The job, posted on Sept. 23, requires a product manager to “shape and execute the road map for generative AI solutions designed to enhance personal, team, and organizational productivity across Netflix.”

This role is part of Netflix’s wider plan to incorporate AI throughout its operations, from content suggestions to visual effects.

Responsibilities and Requirements

The right candidate needs at least six years of product management experience with a history in enterprise applications, plus knowledge of AI technologies. Netflix wants someone with a “solid foundational understanding of machine-learning concepts and terminology” including model training, fine-tuning, embeddings, and evaluation metrics.

Hands-on experience with generative AI solutions and change management for AI tech adoption are required. The person should be able to work with engineering teams while making smart decisions based on tech and business factors.

The new hire will create product strategy for Netflix’s Productivity Assistant, conduct user research to understand workforce needs, and experiment with prompt engineering and interfaces. They must ensure AI solutions align with Netflix’s values around safety, fairness, and transparency and work well with legal, privacy, and ethics teams.

Productivity Assistant Details

Netflix’s Productivity Assistant is its internal suite of AI tools that boost workforce efficiency across its global operations of over 13,000 employees. While Netflix is known for its consumer-facing AI recommendation systems, the Productivity Assistant focuses on internal operations, helping staff by automating tasks and removing manual processes.

A key part of the system is Netflix’s Universal Search, similar to Google Search, but within the company. According to Ruchi Agarwal, senior software engineer at Netflix, before this tool, about 18% of employee time was wasted searching for internal information. This info could be anything from employee contacts and company policies to code.

The Productivity Assistant also uses AI-powered bots to handle about 150,000 annual internal support tickets for things like laptop setup and VPN connections. It also extends to Netflix’s feedback culture, using generative AI to help employees navigate the company’s transparency approach. The AI assistant identifies key themes in feedback and makes it actionable and helps employees give better feedback.

Salary and AI Integration

The salary shows the competition for AI product management talent. AI product managers get higher pay than regular product managers. Demand for AI-focused product managers has risen as companies seek experts who can turn AI into productivity.

An MIT study found that about 5% of AI pilot programs at companies have boosted revenue. Netflix’s remote work offer shows that it sees remote work as a business strategy to attract talent. Corporate employees are expected to work in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the company says, “Our U.S.-based team is happy to embrace remote work” in many job listings.

This move aligns with Netflix’s AI transformation. Netflix has been adding AI into its content value chain, from script analysis to visual effects. This year, Netflix launched ChatGPT-powered search features and AI-enhanced advertising. The focus on productivity tools shows Netflix views AI efficiency as a competitive edge.
