OnePlus is expanding its use of mobile AI. While it has been slower than others to implement AI, that is changing.

OnePlus thrives on trends, and the company recently confirmed it would replace the alert slider with the Plus Key, a shortcut button similar to Apple's. OnePlus has announced an expanded collection of AI features for translation, photography, screen capture, and more. The OnePlus approach covers most established AI uses.

AI Features

AI VoiceScribe will record and summarize calls in messaging and video chat apps. AI Call Assistant will record and summarize phone calls, similar to Google's Pixel phones; however, these two features are currently for India only.

OnePlus users globally will get AI Translation, which combines text, voice, camera, and screen translation into one AI-powered app. AI Search will allow users to search for content on their phone and in OnePlus system apps in a conversational way. This is similar to Motorola's Ask and Search feature.

OnePlus also promises AI in the camera. AI Reframe will analyze the viewfinder and suggest framing options. AI Best Face 2.0, rolling out later this summer, will analyze and correct closed eyes or suboptimal expressions. This is similar to Google's Best Take and can work with group shots of up to 20 people. It can even use photos from other phones to fix faces.

AI Plus Mind

AI Plus Mind, integrated with the Plus Key, allows users to capture screen content and save it to an AI-curated Mind Space. This is similar to Google's Screenshots app and can extract information like calendar appointments, so you don't have to manually add them. A future update will add automatic categorization of content in Mind Space.

The company says its hybrid approach to processing keeps sensitive data on the phone and uses the cloud only when more power is needed. The specifics of the OnePlus system are vague.

Gemini will gain the ability to interact with OnePlus apps like Notes and Clock. Many new AI features will debut on the OnePlus 13s, a variant of the China-only OnePlus 13T; the 13s is launching exclusively in India. Future devices will also adopt the Plus Key for quick access to these AI features. Existing devices in the OnePlus 13 family will also get an update enabling most AI features.
