OnePlus is making a significant push into mobile AI, introducing a suite of advanced features designed to enhance user experience across various functionalities. The company, known for its trend-driven approach, is replacing its traditional alert slider with the Plus Key, a shortcut button that will serve as a gateway to its new AI capabilities.
The latest AI features from OnePlus cover a broad spectrum of uses, including translation, photography, screen capture, and more. This comprehensive approach ensures that users can leverage AI in almost every aspect of their smartphone experience. Among the standout features are AI VoiceScribe and AI Call Assistant, which record and summarize calls in messaging and video chat apps, as well as phone calls, respectively. However, these features are currently limited to the Indian market.
AI Features in OnePlus Devices
OnePlus users globally will benefit from AI Translation, an app that combines text, voice, camera, and screen translation into a single AI-powered tool. Additionally, AI Search will enable users to search for content on their phones and within OnePlus system apps in a conversational manner, similar to Motorola's Ask and Search feature.
In the camera department, OnePlus is introducing AI Reframe, which analyzes the viewfinder and suggests optimal framing options. AI Best Face 2.0, slated for release later this summer, will correct closed eyes or suboptimal expressions in photos, even in group shots of up to 20 people. This feature is akin to Google's Best Take and can utilize photos from other devices to fix faces.
AI Plus Mind and the Plus Key
AI Plus Mind, integrated with the Plus Key, allows users to capture screen content and save it to an AI-curated Mind Space. This feature extracts information like calendar appointments, eliminating the need for manual data entry. A future update will add automatic categorization of content within Mind Space, further enhancing its usability.
OnePlus emphasizes a hybrid approach to processing, keeping sensitive data on the phone and utilizing the cloud only when additional power is required. While the specifics of the OnePlus system remain vague, the company assures users of robust data protection measures.
Integration with OnePlus Apps
Gemini, a OnePlus app, will gain the ability to interact with other OnePlus apps like Notes and Clock. Many of the new AI features will debut on the OnePlus 13s, a variant of the China-only OnePlus 13T. The OnePlus 13s is launching exclusively in India, with future devices also adopting the Plus Key for quick access to these AI features. Existing devices in the OnePlus 13 family will receive an update enabling most of these AI features.
This expansion of AI capabilities marks a significant shift for OnePlus, positioning the company as a leader in mobile AI innovation. As the technology continues to evolve, users can expect even more advanced features and integrations in the future.
