Samsung's Android XR Headset Confirmed

The release of Samsung’s first Android XR headset later this year has essentially been confirmed. It was previously known that the headset would employ a Qualcomm CPU. The XR headset has been listed in Geekbench’s database, verifying the precise model number and name of its chip.

Android XR Platform

Google and Samsung collaborated to create Android XR, a new platform that supports AI-integrated experiences on AR glasses, smart glasses, and mixed reality headsets. It was unveiled at Google I/O and marks Google’s comeback to XR. Google’s Gemini AI is at the heart of Android XR, allowing for contextual and multimodal interaction through speech, movement, and immediate time camera input.

Leaked Specifications

A new leak has emerged, courtesy of tipster Abhishek Yadav, who shared a screenshot of Geekbench on X that purportedly showed the wearable hardware specifications. The headset might come with Android 14 pre-installed, a Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2 CPU, and 16GB of RAM.

Samsung hasn’t given a specific release date yet, instead giving a six-month window and hinting at a late 2025 launch date. The latest appearance of Samsung’s XR Headset was at Google I/O when Samsung said that it will introduce its Project Moohan “later on this year.”

Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 Chip

Qualcomm’s recently unveiled Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip marks a significant advancement in extended reality (XR) computing power and capabilities. Created for next-generation augmented and virtual devices, this chipset offers up to 4.3K quality per sight at 90 frames per second. The chip can accommodate 12 or more cameras at once, allowing for complex hand, eye, and body monitoring. It incorporates Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 7, which offer fast, low-latency wireless connections.

With these enhancements, the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 becomes a potent engine for future XR headsets, such as Samsung’s Project Moohan. Samsung is expected to include Gemini’s most recent innovations into the headset, improving user intuition.
