Google co-founder Sergey Brin recently discussed his return to the company. He mentioned that he now goes to the Google office almost daily to help train the company's Gemini models because he finds it interesting. These comments were made at Google’s I/O developer conference last week.
Brin made a surprise appearance during a talk initially planned to feature only Demis Hassabis, the head of Google DeepMind. Brin joked about bothering Hassabis. He said he enjoys being involved in the technical details because people like Demis are managing everything else. He was quoted by Business Insider as saying that this aligns with his scientific interests.
Sergey Brin and Larry Page stepped down from their official roles at Alphabet in 2019 and retired. However, Brin rejoined Google in 2023 to assist the company in the AI sector. He also expressed optimism about Google’s renewed focus on wearables, after stopping Google Glass a decade prior. He admitted he didn’t know about consumer electronic supply chains and the challenges of achieving a reasonable price point.
He added that AI is now more advanced for such products. Google is developing Extended Reality (XR), an operating system for wearables like smart glasses, with partners such as Samsung. At I/O 2025, Google showed an XR-powered smart glasses prototype with Gemini AI capabilities. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that Bangladesh has more vulnerable areas than India’s corridor connecting the Northeast.
