Alphabet Inc.’s Google is serious about artificial intelligence innovation. On May 20, the company confirmed that co-founder Sergey Brin is back to bring his experience to Gemini and create game-changing innovations.
Brin will be actively involved with Gemini, the tech giant’s flagship platform, and will lead AI innovations. Brin, who stepped down and handed over the reins to Sundar Pichai, says he has learned from mistakes made on the Google Glass project and plans to use those lessons on Gemini. He is optimistic about Google’s latest wearable, the XR and Extended Reality glasses, and believes that AI is well positioned to revolutionize glass products.
Google is collaborating with partners, including Samsung and Xreal, to develop Android XR glasses with AI and AR capabilities. Google is investing up to $150 million in a partnership with Warby Parker and acquiring stock in the eyewear startup to enhance smart glasses.
Brin’s return and focus on Gemini indicates that Google is ready to compete with OpenAI, which has threatened to disrupt its dominance in search with AI innovations. Some believe that other AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
