San José State University (SJSU) is set to become a leading hub for AI talent with the launch of its AI Center for Civic and Social Good, now significantly strengthened by a partnership with the Cadence Giving Foundation. This collaboration brings critical resources, including advanced AI design software and digital twin technology, to empower students and drive innovation in the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence sector.

The Cadence Giving Foundation has committed to multi-year support for the AI Center, providing a substantial donation of cutting-edge software and tools. This contribution, sourced from Cadence Design Systems, the foundation’s parent company, aims to give students hands-on experience with industry-leading technology. By equipping students with these tools, the center will prepare them for successful careers in AI-driven fields.

Key Software Donation

The donation includes state-of-the-art AI design software and digital twin technology, which are essential for simulating and optimizing complex systems. These tools will enable students to work on real-world projects, gaining practical skills that are highly sought after in the AI industry. KT Moore, vice president of Corporate Marketing at Cadence, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting the AI ecosystem at SJSU, stating, “Cadence is proud to contribute to the development of the future workforce by providing the tools and resources necessary for students to excel.”

Building the Future Workforce

The partnership between SJSU and the Cadence Giving Foundation is part of a broader initiative to build the workforce of the future. By offering students access to advanced AI technologies, the center will help bridge the gap between academia and industry, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to tackle the challenges of the AI-driven economy. “This collaboration is a testament to our shared vision of creating a skilled and innovative workforce,” said SJSU President Cynthia Teniente-Matson.

Collaborative Effort

The Cadence Giving Foundation joins a consortium of prominent organizations supporting the AI Center, including NVIDIA, Adobe, the City of San José, and the Knight Foundation. This collective effort underscores the importance of collaboration in advancing AI research and education. The center will feature specialized laboratories across nine SJSU colleges, showcasing the potential of AI and digital twin technologies to address multidisciplinary challenges.

Anticipated Launch

The San José AI Center is scheduled to open in the summer of 2026, marking a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to AI education. The center will provide students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to excel in AI-related fields, positioning SJSU as a leader in technology and education within Silicon Valley.

University President's Perspective

President Cynthia Teniente-Matson emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership with Cadence, noting that it enhances SJSU’s ability to prepare students for the evolving world of work. “By integrating innovative tools like digital twin software into our curriculum, we are ensuring that our graduates are ready to lead in the responsible and human-centered application of AI,” she said. This focus on ethical and practical AI education aligns with SJSU’s mission to foster technological leadership and innovation.
