Parents and companies have been frustrated by the absence of a dependable standard for age verification across online platforms. Google’s Credential Manager API, utilizing Google Wallet and zero-knowledge proof cryptography, has demonstrated the potential for such a standard. Collaboration is now essential to realize the future of digital identity.
At the Global Digital Collaboration Conference in Geneva, Sparkasse, a German network of savings banks comprising 343 regional banks and over 50 million customers, announced a wallet-based digital age verification service in collaboration with Google. This service will allow customers to securely verify their age online using credentials issued by Sparkasse.
Apps and sites will have a reliable method for admitting age-appropriate users and protecting children from unsuitable content. The solution integrates with Android and Chrome, enabling one-click age checks on supported platforms without revealing personal data. This will be available in the coming months.
