AI-powered drones could significantly improve Ukraine's air defenses against Russian threats like the Shahed drones. Azhnyuk argues that computer-guided systems surpass human capabilities in perception and agility, offering a critical advantage in modern warfare.
Ukraine's Deputy Defense Minister, Yuriy Myronenko, notes that the country is nearing completion of such systems, with partial implementation already in place. By the end of 2026, thousands of these AI-powered systems could be operational, reshaping the battlefield.

The rise of AI in warfare raises ethical questions. Vadym, from DevDroid, highlights the risk of AI misidentifying soldiers, leading to friendly fire incidents. His company's machine guns use AI for detection but lack an automatic shooting option due to these concerns.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned the UN about the dangers of an AI arms race, urging the creation of global rules for AI in weapons. He emphasizes the urgency of regulating AI to prevent its destructive potential, likening it to the prevention of nuclear proliferation.

The challenge of countering AI-powered drone swarms is significant. Traditional methods like jamming are ineffective against these advanced systems. Ukraine's successful 'Spider Web' operation, which targeted Russian air bases, likely involved AI tools, demonstrating the strategic importance of AI in modern warfare.
