Vorys Featured in Crain’s Cleveland Business Story
Crain’s Cleveland Business highlighted AIV Labor, Vorys' agentic GenAI product designed to address employment law questions. Vorys developed AIV Labor to quickly and effectively address questions regarding federal, state, and local employment laws.
The story quoted Vorys Partner Chaz Billington and called the firm’s AI approach “innovative.”
Development of AIV Labor
According to the story, AIV Labor’s development started at least a year ago from the firm’s AI exploration. Billington, a partner in the firm’s labor and employment group, said some of Vorys’ clients have been working with the platform. He emphasized that the AI product is homebrewed and proprietary, not a tailored version of an established platform.
Billington said the firm had been using existing AI technology to collect information about state-specific labor laws, but the results were not inspiring. This motivated the firm to create something more useful. Billington said they initially considered buying versus building, but ultimately built it internally.
Cutting-Edge AI Development
The story highlights that it is cutting-edge for a law firm to develop AI technology in-house.
Vorys has a presence in Northeast Ohio, ranking among the top-25 largest firms in the market. Chris Schmitt, executive director of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, said he is not aware of other firms in the market building a platform like AIV Labor. However, he noted that some others may be quietly working on similar development.
