The latest Ads Safety Report highlights a key trend from 2024: AI is improving the ability to prevent fraudsters from showing ads to people. For years, advanced technologies have been deployed to safeguard ads platforms from bad actors.
Enhancements to LLMs
In 2024, over 50 enhancements to LLMs were launched, enabling more efficient and precise enforcement at scale. These updates sped up complex investigations, helping identify bad actors and fraud signals, such as illegitimate payment information, during account setup. This kept billions of policy-violating ads from showing, while ensuring legitimate businesses can show ads to customers faster.
Countermeasures Against Scams
Defenses were also adapted against ever-evolving scams, notably the rise of AI-generated public figure impersonation ads. To fight back, a team of over 100 experts developed countermeasures, such as updating the Misrepresentation policy to suspend advertisers that promote these scams. As a result, more than 700,000 offending advertiser accounts were permanently suspended.
