Björn Ulvaeus is using AI to help write a new musical. He told an audience that he is almost finished with the musical, which uses AI songwriting tools.

Ulvaeus said that while the technology isn't great at writing lyrics or entire songs, it can help when he gets stuck creatively. He explained that he can input a lyric and ask the AI for suggestions on how to extend it, sometimes finding useful ideas within the AI's output.

The use of AI in music is controversial. Many artists have expressed concerns about protecting their copyright. However, Ulvaeus views AI as a collaborator and a tool, like having another songwriter with a vast knowledge base, expanding his own thinking.

This isn't Ulvaeus's first time experimenting with technology. Abba Voyage, which features digital avatars of the band, has been very successful. The company needed to make £140m to break even. He has always been interested in new technology, using things like the Minimoog synthesiser and digital recording machines early on.

Ulvaeus sees AI as a natural progression in his career and enjoys exploring new possibilities.
