Google I/O 2025: AI Upgrades Revealed

Google has presented a variety of products and updates at Google I/O 2025. The advancements include 3D video calls via Beam, image and video generation models like Imagen 4 and Veo 3, and Android XR for smart wearables.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, said that artificial intelligence adoption is accelerating. He mentioned that the Gemini app has over 400 million monthly active users, with Gemini 2.5 Pro model usage increasing by 45%.
Gemini 2.5 Updates
Google has upgraded its Gemini 2.5 Pro and Flash models. Gemini 2.5 Pro has a “Deep Think Mode” for reasoning, allowing the AI to explore multiple hypotheses. The Pro and Flash models now have native audio outputs for generating speech.
Gemini 2.5 Flash has improved efficiency and security against prompt injection attacks, enhancing Gemini’s capabilities for queries and interactions.
Google Search Overhaul
Google Search has been overhauled with an “AI Mode” for chatbot-style conversations. This mode, powered by a Gemini 2.5 model, is being rolled out to US users. Features like “Deep Search” and “Search Live” aim to redefine user interaction with information.
New AI Subscription Tiers
Google introduced Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) and Google AI Ultra ($249.99/month). Google AI Pro offers higher usage limits for the Gemini app and access to tools like Flow and NotebookLM. Google AI Ultra provides the highest usage limits, early access to features like Veo 3 and Agent Mode, 30 TB of storage, and YouTube Premium.
Google Beam
Google Beam, a 3D video conferencing system, is moving from research to commercialization. It uses AI, 3D imaging, and displays to create images of participants without headsets. The first Google Beam devices, in collaboration with HP, are expected to be available later this year, with compatibility for Google Meet and Zoom.
Android XR
Google unveiled Android XR, an operating system for augmented, mixed, and virtual reality devices. This platform integrates Gemini AI directly into headsets and smart glasses for hands-free AI assistance. Partnerships with eyewear brands like Samsung (Project Moohan), Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker were also announced.
Imagen 4 and Veo 3
Advancements in generative AI for media were showcased with Imagen 4 and Veo 3. Imagen 4 offers improved clarity, detail, spelling, and support for 2K resolution. Veo 3 can produce visuals from text prompts and accompanying audio.
Google Flow
Google introduced Flow, an AI filmmaking tool for creatives that allows users to weave cinematic films with control over characters, scenes, and styles. It enables the creation and stitching together of AI-generated video clips and is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Gemini Live and Personalization
Gemini Live is now globally available for free on Android and iPhone. This feature enables Gemini to interpret objects through a device’s camera and respond contextually. Gemini is becoming more personalised with ‘Personal Context’ and ‘Canvas’ for co-creation of infographics, quizzes, and podcast-style Audio Overviews in multiple languages.
SynthID Detector
To address concerns about AI-generated content, Google launched the SynthID Detector, a verification portal designed to identify AI-generated content watermarked with SynthID.
