AI-Powered Shopping on Google
Our updated AI Mode experience enhances every aspect of shopping, from initial inspiration to finalizing purchases. Additionally, the virtual try-on tool now supports personal photos.
Shopping often raises questions, such as product suitability and potential price drops. The new shopping experience in AI Mode offers inspiring visuals, intelligent guidance, and reliable product information. Shoppers gain access to a virtual dressing room and an agentic checkout for swift purchases when prices are favorable.
AI Mode and Shopping Graph
The AI Mode shopping experience combines Gemini capabilities with the Shopping Graph, facilitating browsing and product selection. The Shopping Graph includes over 50 billion product listings from global retailers and local shops, complete with reviews, prices, color options, and availability. The information is refreshed hourly with over 2 billion product listings.
For example, when searching for a travel bag in AI Mode, the system provides a visually rich panel of personalized images and product listings. To refine the search for bags suitable for Portland, Oregon in May, AI Mode initiates simultaneous searches to determine ideal features for rainy weather and long trips, suggesting waterproof options with accessible pockets. A dynamic panel updates with relevant products and images, aiding in precise product identification and brand discovery.
These shopping enhancements are scheduled for U.S. release in the coming months.
Agentic Checkout
The new agentic checkout feature enables purchases within budget. By tapping “track price” on a product listing, shoppers can specify size, color, and desired price. Upon receiving a price drop notification, confirming the purchase details and tapping “buy for me” completes the transaction. The system adds the item to the cart on the merchant's site and completes the checkout via Google Pay. This feature will be available in the U.S. soon.
Virtual Try-On
Virtual try-on technology allows shoppers to visualize clothing on different body types. Users can now virtually try on billions of apparel listings by uploading a photo. This technology uses a custom image generation model for fashion, understanding the human body and clothing nuances, preserving subtleties like material folds and stretches. The “try on” experiment is now available in Search Labs in the U.S.
When shopping for apparel on Google, tapping the “try it on” icon allows users to upload a full-length photo and see how items look on them. Saved looks can be shared with friends.
AI is facilitating a new phase of shopping in Search.
